Great Oaks Legacy Charter School is a tuition-free, open-enrollment public charter school serving more than 2,000 Newark students from Pre-K through 12th grade across seven campuses. Rooted in Newark, we offer families a complete educational pathway where students can learn, grow, discover their interests, and prepare for life after graduation within one school community.
We believe an excellent education extends beyond the classroom. In addition to rigorous academics and individualized support, students have access to before- and after-school care, extracurricular activities, athletics, clubs, enrichment opportunities, and college and career exploration. As students advance, they can pursue Advanced Placement courses, college dual enrollment, and Career and Technical Education pathways in Computer Science and Health Sciences.
Through strong partnerships with families and the Newark community, we work to create opportunities that support the whole student.

Career & Technical Education (CTE) gives Great Oaks Legacy students hands-on opportunities to connect what they learn in the classroom to real career pathways. Through programs in Computer Science and Health Sciences, students build practical, industry-aligned skills, explore potential careers, and work toward credentials and experiences that can give them a head start after graduation. CTE helps students see a clear connection between high school, postsecondary education, and the careers they may choose to pursue.
Great Oaks Legacy gives students opportunities to experience college-level academics while they are still in high school. Through Advanced Placement courses and college dual-enrollment opportunities, students can challenge themselves academically, explore subjects in greater depth, and in some cases earn college credit before graduation.

Students have access to college coursework through partnerships and opportunities with:
At Great Oaks Legacy, tutoring is not an add-on—it is built into the school day. Every middle school scholar receives virtual tutoring, while every 3rd- and 4th-grade scholar receives hands-on individual and small-group tutoring focused on reading, literacy, and math.
This additional layer of support gives students more time to practice skills, receive targeted instruction, ask questions, and build confidence alongside their classroom learning.
At Great Oaks Legacy, learning extends well beyond the classroom. Students across grade levels participate in field trips and enrichment experiences that bring academics to life, expose them to new places and careers, and create memorable opportunities to learn alongside their classmates.
Experiences have included:
At Great Oaks Legacy, school is about more than what happens in the classroom. Families are part of the experience, with opportunities throughout the year to come together, celebrate, learn, connect, and have fun.
From Back-to-School Bashes, family BBQs, STEM fairs, resource fairs, family fun nights, performances, celebrations, and schoolwide events to guest speakers, mentorship opportunities, community service projects, and college and career experiences, there is always something happening across the GOLCS community.
And our connection to Newark runs deep. We work alongside local nonprofits, health providers, cultural organizations, colleges, civic leaders, businesses, and community partners to bring resources, experiences, and opportunities directly to our students and families.
At GOLCS, families do not simply enroll in a school. They become part of a community that shows up for one another.

Mr. Baker teaches English/Language Arts at the high school and has for the last four years. He was recently recognized for his excellence in the classroom. He holds himself and his students to high standards and strives to go above and beyond to support scholars and our school community.
"Excellence shows up in the classroom when we see those obtainable goals reached by our scholars. It can be a personal goal. It can be scholars stepping out of their comfort zones. Being the person to facilitate that brings me great joy."
