About
KIPP Newark

KIPP Newark is part of the nationally recognized KIPP (Knowledge Is Power Program) network of over 250 tuition-free public charter schools across the country. We opened our first KIPP Newark school in the South Ward in 2002 with just 80 students. Today, we proudly serve over 6,000 students (K-12) across 12 schools in Newark. While many of our families live in Newark, we also welcome students from surrounding communities.

As part of the KIPP network, we use proven best practices from schools nationwide to build a strong foundation for students to thrive in and out of the classroom. Our schools provide:

Engaging Extracurricular Activities – Students explore their passions and build confidence through various athletics, enrichment courses and student interest clubs like entrepreneurship, photography and robotics
Comprehensive Student and Family Support – We offer in-school mental health and social-emotional services, after-school programs and family engagement events to ensure access to resources
College and Career Readiness – Through our KIPP Forward counseling program, KIPP students and alumni have access to free college credits in high school, career support, and one-on-one guidance throughout high school and college. A 2023 study by Mathematica found that KIPP middle and high school students are 31% more likely to graduate from college than their peers who do not attend KIPP.
