Marion P Thomas Charter School
Marion P. Thomas Charter School (MPTCS) was created by members of the Newark community, for the community, to improve the community through education. In 1999, the school opened its doors to 60 kindergarten through 2nd-grade students and has grown to serve over 1,300 students in PreK to 12th grade, including four schools:
- PAC Academy, 28 Burnet St.(PreK-8th Grade) – PAC is committed to providing a unique learning environment that combines academic excellence with performing and culinary arts.
STEAM Academy, 370 S. 7th St. (PreK-8th Grade) – STEAM integrates science, technology, engineering, arts, and math into every aspect of the curriculum and after-school activities.
SANKOFA Academy, 88-108 Shipman St. (K-2nd Grade) – Sankofa is centered on preparing students to be global citizens, and reflective learners, particularly advanced in science, math, and art.
Marion P. Thomas Charter High School (MPTCHS) 125 Sussex Ave. (9th-12th Grade) – MPTCHS focuses on college and career readiness and offers diverse courses, including AP and Honors classes, dual enrollment courses, culinary, visual art, theater, and dance. Our state-of-the-art facility provides the perfect backdrop for students’ learning environment.
Affectionately known as the Village, MPTCS is guided by the African proverb “It takes a village to raise a child.” Our staff, parents, and community partners are united in a singular focus to prepare MPTCS scholars for college and career readiness.
